History
TI Protective Coatings was formed in 1992; in the early years the company carried out small maintenance painting contracts with a team of 12 employees; the company later diversified into large scale industrial Grit Blasting & Painting operations. With the expansion in workforce and skill development the company’s activities extended from the North West, nationwide; with the ability to carry out multi-million pound contracts at either end of the country. Turnover increased by 300% in 2005 and has been increasing steadily year on year since then.
With larger projects and clients becoming the norm we decided to train a number of our Supervisors as Paint Inspectors to ensure we could provide expert advice and analysis to the industry; we successfully trained 4 Institute of Corrosion Paint Inspectors to Level 1, with our current chief Contracts Manager, Michael Taziker, achieving his Level 3 in addition to his much coveted NACE Level 1 Paint Inspectors accreditation.
The summer of 2006 brought new horizons to T.I. Protective Coatings with the award of our Contractors Assurance Case (now a Principal Contractors License, Link-Up ID: 5320) by Network Rail, we were awarded our first direct contract in October 06. This project was the £1,200,000 refurbishment of Oykel Viaduct in Invershin for Network Rail MP&I Civils Scotland, and was successfully completed in June 2007; for our efforts on this Grade 2 listed structure we nominated for a National Heritage Award.
Since the award of Oykel Viaduct in 2006 we have been continually employed directly for Network Rail upon numerous refurbishment projects across the UK; carrying out the restoration of Bridges, Stations, Signals and OHLE as Principal Contractor.
Broadening and diverse scopes of work brought more requirements for us to sub-let areas of our work, especially our Access Scaffolding and Steelwork Repair operations. As a result TI Protective Coatings invested in Network Scaffolding, a national Link-Up approved scaffolding company, with whom we have worked closely with on bridge refurbishments for over 10 years. This move enables us to achieve a greater level of communication and through sharing the same processes we have been able to synergise our Scaffolding and Painting divisions who now work to the same standards, objectives and targets.
In order to address the continual need to carry out Steelwork repairs upon the structures we were Scaffolding, Encapsulating, Grit Blasting & Painting, we decided to recruit individuals with experience in the management and design of structural steelwork repairs and a number of operatives suitably trained to carry out the work internally under the guidance of specialist Contracts Managers.
TI Protective Coatings have implemented a number of bridge strengthening schemes working closely with our Designers (White Young Green). We are currently working together on Structural Strengthening Schemes at Rannoch and Ghaoir Viaducts in Scotland Territory and on Weston Mill Viaduct in Western Territory. With the addition of these 2 divisions TI Protective Coatings can now offer a complete package of refurbishment works as a single Principal Contractor to Network Rail and all our Rail and Civil clients.
In June 2008 T.I. Protective Coatings were awarded the new Highways Agency NHSS 19A accreditation, this is now a mandatory requirement for any contractor wishing to carry out Corrosion Protection work upon the Highways. At the time we did not realize it, but we were the first contractor in the UK to be awarded this prestigious accreditation.
In order to demonstrate our commitment to continual improvement we have achieved and held ISO 9001:2000,
ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:1999 for a number of years now. We are also Link-Up Approved, holders of the Investors in People standard, members of Constructionline, CHAS holders, members of the British Safety Council, and accredited to the Utilities sector UVDB standard.
During the previous 3 years the number of office based staff has increased from 6 to 12 people with the installation of Project Managers, HSQE advisors and specialist Rail personnel. This enables us to carry out further large scale projects without impacting upon the level of quality and the professional service we’ve always valued. Our on-site workforce holds steady at a minimum level of 55 personnel increasing to 90 during busy periods. The majority of our workforce is PTS trained, with a number of personnel holding COSS, IWA and Lookout competencies. All of our PTS holders are ICATS (Industrial Coatings Applicator Training Scheme) trained, with approximately 95% of our entire workforce fully accredited; the remaining 5% are Apprentices who undertake the ICATS assessments as part of their development training.
We believe we are ideally suited to provide a full package of structural refurbishment services to our clients across the country. For a quotation, advice or further documentary evidence please contact the Managing Director, Graham Moor on 01204 468080, or via email on Graham@ticoatings.co.uk
